i spent a lot of time over in asia, most recently living in beijing. i have to tell you, the mood among mean chinese, they're on the rise and we're just moving down. regardless of what the stats are, what the realities are, that's how they are feeling. that is not a good place for us to be. i compare it to the 1970s, when you had nixon and secretary kissinger after the vietnam war. they didn't fall back into recluse, they actually had a strategy. it was conquer and divide. they made sure they had a strong relationship with the chinese and strong relationship with the soviets. now, it's no longer the case. the question that i have is, what is our strategy? what is the administration's strategy? because there's all this talk of this pivot to asia. i'm not even sure what that means. president obama has not even taken a trip other than once to beijing. if this is in fact the most important relationship of the 21st century, why not sit down and meet with xi jinping and meet with the officials over there. to the chinese people, that means a whole heck of a l
